Absolute inhuman treatment of Woman

Licence to Rape in Pakistan!

Firstly, let me start by saying I am an Avid news follower of Dawn, not only because of our long shared history with Pakistan, but we share a lot many common problems that holds us back from becoming a developed and a better country.

In today's day and age, we think of men and women as equals...Talk about how much women have achieved, astronaut (Sunita Williams), CEO of big company (Indra Noyi) etc etc. They have worked hard, achieved success, respect and authoritative position in life and are shining beacon to women in Subcontinent.

But why does this all sound superficial for our subcontinental culture. India's nation capital is plagued with rape cases. I cant begin to count how many incidents have shown up in just this one year of 2013. And we are talking about just the registered cases. Many thousands wouldn't want to even come forward to seek justice. At least that is changing in India. At least we are empowering them with the right to seek justice. Even though corrupt, we still have a system that provides a channel to punish the culprits when people come forward to seek justice.

But can we say the same about Pakistan? How can u justify the law mentioned above. A woman raped needs 4 witness? DNA proof not admissible to punish the culprit? How do u expect a woman to feel safe at home, in their own country? Agreed the religious code written to make our life purposeful, harmonious, happy and content. But weren't these codes written long long ago when things were simple and different from today's world.

I have extreme thoughts when it comes to religion. I believe in all and I believe in none. Believing in all equally makes me not distinguish one religion to be inferior or superior, while believing in none makes me not follow a religion blindly with all its codes and conducts. Times have changed, lives have changed, and more importantly people have changed too. We should not be addressing our complex issues through the threads of religion that were drawn thousand's of years ago.

People need to feel safe in their home, their country and should have a right to fight for JUSTICE.

Let me know your thoughts.

Disclaimer - Plz dont see this as an attack to a religion or country, I post my opinions on an article that i read, and I beliefs/agreements/disagreements for the same.

Thanks!
